Conditions: Conditions are bound to fluctuate on a nine day trip. This one started out beautifully –the kind of weather that makes you fall in love with sailing all over again. But a microburst (35 mile-per-hour winds) took us by surprise on the third night. By the time we were able to get our Spinnaker down and our Main reefed, we all felt like we had wrestled a bear and the Spinnaker needed to be repaired. Thankfully, the next few days were uneventful. We hit some heavy fog just south of New York but were able to enjoy the sites when it finally cleared up after sunrise.

Highlights: Having a very experienced crew and a couple of great cooks was critical to getting through Béluga's maiden voyage.
